Wednesday, March 30, 2022

6:00-7:00pm

Attendees: Kara Channing, Sarita Smith, Bonne Kwame, Sara Patinkin, Deonne Stults, Anessa Anderson, Sarah Banks, Mike Benoit, Brian

  • Principal Update

    • It’s great to see people!

    • Safety concerns for kids staying after school - new rule is that students must stay on campus until they leave. Having a student store at sporting events would help with this.

      • Track meets are big fundraisers

      • Brian can get us the schedule for track meets

      • If we want ASB/Leadership kids to help with student store, we can.

    • ASB fundraiser - will be a flat pledge donation fundraiser with a prize system for kids.

      • Explanation of what ASB funds vs what VPO funds - they fund CARS (cultural, athletic, recreational and social) activities - i.e. assemblies, sports, etc.

    • Wrestling/soccer is finishing up, Track/Basketball is starting soon.

    • HRMS is doing a Tacoma Little theater production - Peter Pan. Info went out last week.

    • Registration is done for 8th grade and coming up next week for 6th/7th. Register through the portal. Will be seeing things coming. Info is in Schoology.

    • Last Friday they had 5th graders come up for a field trip and check out the school.

    • Boundary changes happening next year - Minter will no longer feed to HRMS.

    • There will be a field trip for 8th graders Bullwinkle’s on the last friday of school year.

    • Field day - may be on the same day as the 8th grade trip, but for 6th/7th. Not sure yet. They plan to have cotton candy and treats and yearbook signing.

    • 8th grade moving on - thinking about how we can do a dance or similar activity for them. Will probably do yard signs again.

      • In the past, the dance was on a Friday 8-11, but that was too long. Maybe 8-10. That’s been a VPO event.

      • DJ is available (Hayden Hall)

      • VW  Bus Photo Booth

    • Spirit wear - should be coming out in the next week or two.

    • Yearbooks - out the week before school ends

    • COVID Safety - kids were good about wearing masks. Had discussions with staff & students about why people continue to wear masks and everyone has been respectful.
